Our first conversation is about understanding what you need, and whether we can help. We have a basic framework that we use to ensure that we're not missing anything important - common project risks and opportunities that we know are crucial to successful delivery. This usually ends in a proposal to proceed together.
Approach
Haunt has built success by consistently delivering on time and budget with no surprises.
This has been based on our ability to understand what success looks like, and by defining what is being delivered in a way that is understood by everyone involved in the project.
Read about the key steps in our delivery process below.
Briefing
High level scope - clarity early on
Web agencies love writing themselves a blank cheque for project delivery, with the true budget being revealed after a "discovery" phase.
Clearly this benefits agencies more than it does the client, so we do it differently.
We create a budget early on that we can stand behind. It isn't a quote (althought it can be), but it provides clarity around where the costs will fall in the project; what you'll get; the assumptions that we're making; and what could lead to additional costs.
Where there are unknowns, we call these out clearly and define a path to removing uncertainty so we can get to a final scope and budget for the work.
Design and technical thinking
Having mapped out a plan and budget for the project we get into the thinking work. This can involve a range of tasks, depending on the project.
This is where we see a lot of projects go off the rails. Philosophically, we have always worked hard to focus efforts (and resources) where we think our clients will see the greatest impact. As a result we err on the side of pragmatism; leaning toward attractive but simple web design; and we always think about what a website is going to be like for our clients to own after five years, not just at "go live".
That said, we've worked directly with some of Australasia's best creative agencies to produce award winning websites. We understand the role of really deep design thinking and strategy, and can bring that into our work where needed. We just don't live for it and, honestly, our clients tell us we have the balance right.
Confirming scope with a roadmap
This is where the magic really happens.
Armed with everything we know so far we confirm the scope of what is being built through our roadmapping workshop. The key outputs of this workshop are to:
- unpack and capture all of what is being built, ensuring everyone understands what is going to be delivered
- identify any remaining things that aren't well understood, or that need to be resolved later in the project.
The detail that we get out of this stage allows our team to accurately quote the work, breaking it down into distinct parts that can be moved in and out of scope. This allows you to prioritise investment to get the best possible outcome.
Implementation – “the build”
The detailed scope of work ensures our delivery team knows exactly what is being built so they can get on with the job.
The next thing you'll see is something close to the finished project, ready for your feedback, testing and approval.
Clear, detailed scope allows our team to deliver your project on time and budget with no surprises.
We can take a more agile approach by breaking projects into phases, refining after each. This is appropriate for product development, but we find that most clients really just want the “big bang” - they've got a budget and want to know what they are going to get before committing to the work. Our process makes it easier for clients to envisage the end product, providing enough clarity to avoid the pitfalls/surprises that can accompany waterfall projects.
