Coastguard New Zealand

The challenge

Our client AKQA needed a partner to develop a mobile application for Coastguard New Zealand that would save the lives of regular boaties and take the pressure off Coastguard’s manual trip reporting processes which receives more than 250,000 trip reports a year. It needed to be fun and easy to use if it was going to be used by boaties. They designed an application that was visually appealing and fun, but that also included some critical technology that had to work when it counted.

Our approach

Working as one team with our client at AKQA we used the incredibly versatile React Native to bring their design vision to life by delivering an app that allows boaties to log trips, check weather and tide on the go, and save their favourite fishing spots. Our client-focus and attention to detail gave our client the confidence that they could deliver.

The outcome

Coastguard’s app was downloaded 4,500 times in the first three weeks and has continued to show strong uptake among the boatie community, and was a finalist for a prestigious design award.

Consumer New Zealand

The challenge

When Consumer went looking for a new technical partner for their Consumer.org.nz and Powerswitch.org.nz websites, they knew they needed an agency who would be a great fit for their existing experts and suppliers who help them to design and manage their digital channels.

Our approach

Haunt has worked with Consumer for two years to effectively plan and implement a wide range of improvements to their sites. We’ve moved their sites to a managed hosting platform, implemented a world-class site search and rebuilt their critical subscription and customer onboarding processes.

The outcome

Haunt’s technical partnership with Consumer ensures their websites, in particular Consumer.org.nz, drive Consumer’s position as one of New Zealand’s most trusted organisations.

National Science Challenges

The challenge

New Zealand’s National Science Challenges were established to drive a new way of conducting public-good science, with a strong focus on public engagement. Each Challenge needed a website that will support the communications and engagement teams to communicate and engage with the public, while carefully managing the costs of setting up and managing the websites.

Our approach

We’ve built and continue to manage websites for three of the Science Challenges: the Deep South Science Challenge; the Sustainable Seas Science Challenge; and Science for Technological Innovation. Our approach has been to work closely with the challenge’s lead agency to understand what they really need, and to help them to manage their spend and ensure they get what they need.

The outcome

The Science Challenges are in their fifth year of ten. The mid-way reviews of the Challenges has recommended on-going funding in recognition of their contribution to New Zealand’s science landscape. The websites we manage are among the most dynamic and user focussed of all the Challenges and continue to grow and evolve with the needs of the respective Challenge teams.

Ako Aotearoa

The challenge

Ako Aotearoa assists tertiary educators and organisations to enable the best possible educational outcomes for all learners. They needed a website that would deliver a step change in their ability to serve content to their diverse audiences, making it easier to find and use, and to do so on an attractive and engaging platform that reflected a fresh new brand.

Our approach

Our work with Ako Aotearoa builds on Haunt’s strong legacy working with organisations in the education sector. We worked closely with our friends and partners Foundry Creative, who provided the creative direction, and involved the Ako Aotearoa team throughout the process. We identified the need for a sophisticated search engine, which allows audiences to search for content based on a range of criteria, and is lightning fast.

The outcome

The Ako Aotearoa website was delivered on time and budget, ready for a significant public launch of their rebrand. Since then we’ve continued to host and support the site, working directly with Ako Aotearoa to identify rolling improvements, keeping the site fresh and ensuring it supports Ako’s important work in the tertiary sector.

The challenge

1Centre is a successful financial sector startup that digitises trade credit application processes. The 1Centre application deals with complicated and sensitive financial information, and it needs to be able to used easily ‘in the field’ on a range of devices by people who wouldn’t necessarily be sitting behind a desk. Once funded, the founder and CEO, Miriana Lowrie, needed to get her product to market as soon as possible. And when live, Miriana has needed a team to built new, significant functionality, working closely with her as she deals with major new clients and continues to grow and expand 1Centre’s market presence.

Our approach

Haunt built the original 1Centre application and continue to work with Miriana as her outsourced development team. We’ve built a relationship based on trust and delivery. Most recently we’ve used Agency Agile to collaborate with Miriana on significant additions to the product, managing scope and ensuring that her clients get what they need.

The outcome

Our approach and partnership with Miriana has allowed her to maintain a small technical team for managing day-to-day technical issues, while relying on Haunt to deliver major enhancements to her product. The 1Centre product turns two this year and is going from strength to strength - it currently has over 15,000 trade profiles and continues to grow.

The Science Learning Hub is the result of a great partnership between Haunt and the University of Waikato’s iEngaged team.

In addition to website development, Haunt Digital has provided the technical and UX advice that iEngaged have used to create one of New Zealand’s most important online education resources.

The Science Learn website is used by hundreds of thousands of students and teachers in New Zealand, and millions of visitors worldwide.
